Kioxia is implementing a comprehensive smart factory plan utilizing AI and robotics to enable 24/7 stable operation by fiscal year 2029, with the goal of maximizing equipment utilization and enhancing NAND cost competitiveness.

Context

Kioxia is targeting 365 days / 24 hours (24/7) smart factory operation by fiscal year 2029. This ambitious goal aims to significantly maximize investment efficiency and maintain the company's competitive edge in NAND flash memory costs. The initiative is crucial as almost half of NAND demand is projected to be AI-related by 2029, necessitating highly efficient production. The roadmap for achieving this involves several phases. By FY2025, Kioxia plans to enhance data-driven labor saving. This will be followed by the implementation of predictive maintenance between FY2025 and 2027. Ultimately, by FY2029, the company intends to utilize robots and drones for maintenance, further automating its facilities. This strategy, supported by existing advanced automation at its Yokkaichi Plant, which processes 3 billion data points daily, underscores Kioxia's commitment to disciplined capital expenditures and improved operating margins.
