Infineon Technologies and United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) have established a partnership focused on implementing sustainability initiatives and driving decarbonization efforts throughout their shared semiconductor supply chain.

Context

On March 4, 2026, Infineon Technologies and United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to drive decarbonization across their shared supply chain. Building on a long-term partnership that includes 40nm eNVM microcontroller production and 130nm Smart Power Technology, the companies will now jointly engage suppliers to set science-based carbon reduction targets. This initiative aims to align their global ecosystem with the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C. The collaboration is critical for meeting ambitious corporate climate goals validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Infineon has committed to reducing absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 72.5% by 2030 against a 2019 baseline. Meanwhile, UMC targets a 42% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions and a 25% reduction in Scope 3 emissions by 2030 compared to 2020 levels. By hosting joint workshops and sharing best practices, the partners aim to mitigate the environmental impact of the energy-intensive semiconductor manufacturing process.
