STMicroelectronics has released two new automotive-grade galvanic isolated 4A gate drivers designed for high-voltage power conversion in electric vehicles. These components focus on reliability and signal integrity in harsh automotive environments, supporting the transition to more efficient power electronics in EVs.

Context

STMicroelectronics has expanded its automotive power management portfolio with the introduction of two new galvanic isolated 4A gate drivers, the STGAP2HSA and STGAP4S. These components are designed to drive SiC MOSFETs and IGBTs in high-voltage electric vehicle (EV) systems, including traction inverters, on-board chargers, and DC/DC converters. The STGAP2HSA features a fast 60ns response time and 6kV surge isolation, while the STGAP4S provides advanced diagnostics to support ISO 26262 ASIL D functional safety standards. This launch addresses the increasing demand for high-efficiency power modules in the EV powertrain market. By integrating robust protection and programmable control, STMicroelectronics aims to reduce system size and complexity for automotive Tier-1s and OEMs. The STGAP4S is currently entering the market to support next-generation software-defined vehicles, with mass production for similar automotive-grade drivers already underway through global distribution channels.
