Daifuku to implement AI-based transport systems for new semiconductor gigafactories

Thursday, December 11, 2025 at 02:55 AM

Daifuku's Senior Managing Executive Officer, Atsushi Sonoda, announced the company's plan to support the new wave of semiconductor gigafactory construction by implementing AI-based transport and logistics systems.

Context

Daifuku is significantly enhancing its AI development capabilities for semiconductor transport systems, a move poised to capitalize on the burgeoning global gigafab construction. The company plans to open new development bases in Kyoto by November 2025 and in Tokyo by January 2026. This expansion, as highlighted by Managing Executive Officer Atsushi Sonoda, aims to optimize AI-enabled route management for overhead wafer carts and back-end transport systems, such as the Cleanway CLW-08K and TRVS AGV models. This strategic investment is critical given the immense scale of modern semiconductor factories, where transport rails can extend over 200 km and fleets may comprise up to ~10,000 carts. Daifuku, alongside Murata, commands over 90% of the semiconductor material-handling market, positioning it to benefit substantially from the demand for advanced, AI-driven logistics solutions in new gigafabs expected to come online between 2025 and 2026. The new R&D sites and timeline signal an immediate ramp-up in product development and talent acquisition to meet this demand.
