Renesas expands software design support tools to accelerate device development

Thursday, March 12, 2026 at 09:09 AM

Renesas is strengthening its software design support tools for electronic devices. This initiative focuses on streamlining the hardware and software development cycle for semiconductor customers by providing more integrated toolsets.

Context

On March 11, 2026, Renesas announced the general availability of Renesas 365, a cloud-based electronics development platform designed to unify hardware and software design workflows. Powered by Altium, which Renesas acquired in 2024, the platform integrates device exploration, model-based system development, and concept validation into a single environment. This launch specifically supports over 550 variants of the RA family of Arm-based microcontrollers, enabling engineers to transition from manual datasheet reviews to AI-assisted system recommendations in minutes. This shift toward a "software-first" design philosophy addresses critical bottlenecks in the semiconductor supply chain by reducing the iteration cycles for embedded AI and IoT devices. By integrating tools like e² studio and QuickConnect Studio v1.7.0, Renesas aims to streamline the selection of MCUs based on real-time system constraints such as power and pin usage. The platform also introduces over-the-air (OTA) device management, ensuring that silicon vendors can maintain digital continuity from early prototyping through the entire device lifecycle.
