Hyundai is investing $6.3 billion in South Korean infrastructure, which includes $4.1 billion dedicated to a new AI data center housing 50,000 GPUs along with a robot manufacturing facility.

Context

Hyundai Motor Group has committed $6.3 billion to establish a massive innovation hub in Saemangeum, South Korea, marking a major expansion into AI and robotics. The project is centered on a $4.1 billion AI data center that will deploy 50,000 NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs to support autonomous driving and "Physical AI" development. The investment also funds South Korea’s first dedicated robot manufacturing plant and extensive renewable energy infrastructure, including hydrogen and solar facilities to power the complex. This vertical integration strategy aims to transition Hyundai from a traditional vehicle manufacturer to a software-led technology leader. By owning its high-performance compute and energy supply, the company seeks to accelerate its Software-Defined Everything roadmap and scale its robotics division. Construction is scheduled to break ground in 2027, with the entire ecosystem targeted for completion by 2029.
