Murata Manufacturing has completed a new 35 billion yen R&D center in Fukui Prefecture focused on multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs). The facility is intended to accelerate development and strengthen the supply chain for advanced electronic components used in various infrastructure and industrial applications.

Context

Murata Manufacturing, through its subsidiary Fukui Murata Manufacturing, held a completion ceremony on February 5, 2026, for its new Ceramic Capacitor R&D Center in Echizen City, Fukui. This 35 billion yen facility, also known as C4-Labo., marks the group's first dedicated hub specifically for multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) research. Strategically located near the Echizen-Takefu Shinkansen station, the center is scheduled to begin full operations on March 30, 2026, with a projected workforce of 800 employees. The investment aims to accelerate the development of next-generation MLCCs required for high-performance AI servers, data centers, and advanced telecommunications. By centralizing research functions that were previously embedded within production lines, Murata seeks to maintain its dominant 40% global market share. The facility is expected to utilize advanced lithography and precision equipment from supply chain partners like ORC Manufacturing to drive the miniaturization and high-capacitance breakthroughs necessary for the evolving semiconductor and AI hardware landscape.
