Micron to end its Crucial consumer brand to focus on AI and enterprise markets

Thursday, December 4, 2025 at 12:26 AM

Micron officially announced it will discontinue its consumer-facing Crucial brand, ending product shipments by February 2026, as the company pivots to dedicating more resources to its faster-growing enterprise and AI data center memory business.

Context

On December 3, 2025, Micron Technology announced its decision to exit the Crucial consumer business, discontinuing the sale of Crucial-branded consumer products to retailers and distributors worldwide. Shipments of these products will continue through the end of Micron's fiscal Q2, concluding in February 2026. This strategic shift allows Micron to reallocate its DRAM and NAND capacity towards higher-growth, higher-margin enterprise segments, particularly those driven by artificial intelligence and data center demand. This includes a significant focus on High Bandwidth Memory (HBM). The move underscores Micron's commitment to capitalizing on the booming AI market. The company reported HBM revenue of nearly $2 billion in the August quarter, suggesting an annualized run rate approaching $8 billion. While Micron's shares had seen a substantial increase of approximately 175% year-to-date, they experienced a slight dip of around 2.6–3% following the announcement. Micron has stated it will continue warranty and support for existing Crucial products and aims to redeploy impacted team members within the company.
