Microchip releases automotive HMI microcontroller with integrated Arm core and DDR2/DDR3L memory

Wednesday, March 25, 2026 at 09:40 AM

Microchip has launched a new automotive microcontroller designed for human-machine interface applications, integrating an Arm926EJ-S core and DDR2/DDR3L memory on a single chip.

Context

On March 24, 2026, Microchip Technology announced the launch of the SAM9X75D5M, an automotive-qualified system-in-package (SiP) designed for human-machine interface (HMI) applications. The hybrid microcontroller integrates an Arm926EJ-S processor core with 512 Mbit of DDR2 SDRAM into a single package. This integration aims to simplify PCB layouts and mitigate the supply chain volatility typically associated with sourcing discrete memory components. The new chip is AEC-Q100 Grade 2 qualified and supports high-resolution displays up to 10 inches at 1024 x 768 pixels. It is positioned for use in digital cockpits, EV chargers, and HVAC controls. Priced at $9.12 in quantities of 5,000, the solution provides a streamlined migration path for manufacturers moving from traditional microcontrollers to more powerful microprocessors while maintaining a familiar development environment.
