Ushio to transfer ultraviolet LED business to Iwasaki Electric
Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at 06:13 AM
Ushio Inc. is transferring its ultraviolet LED business to Iwasaki Electric Co., Ltd. as reported by Nikkei.
Context
Ushio has reached an agreement to transfer its ultraviolet LED and "Unicure" aftermarket service businesses to Iwasaki Electric, with the transaction scheduled for completion on March 31, 2026. The deal includes Ushio’s conventional UV-LED printing and curing segments but specifically excludes the digital printing business and any operations related to the semiconductor market.
This divestment is a core component of Ushio’s "Revive Vision 2030" strategy, which aims to optimize its portfolio by shedding lower-margin industrial lines. By offloading these segments, the company is redirecting capital and engineering resources toward high-growth drivers, specifically semiconductor advanced packaging and EUV lithography light sources. This shift follows a period of underperformance in its previous management plan and signals a narrow focus on dominant positions within the global chip supply chain.
For Iwasaki Electric, the acquisition consolidates its position in the industrial UV market by merging its existing capabilities with Ushio’s established technology and customer base. The move allows Iwasaki to scale its production of UV-LED curing systems for diverse industrial applications while Ushio pivots to support the next generation of AI-driven chip manufacturing tools through its partnership with Applied Materials.
