Marvell has introduced the first 1.6T ZR/ZR+ pluggable optical modules and announced 2nm coherent digital signal processors (DSPs) optimized for interconnecting AI data centers. This move leverages advanced process nodes to scale secure AI infrastructure performance.

Context

On March 5, 2026, Marvell Technology announced the expansion of its optical interconnect portfolio with the industry’s first 1.6T ZR/ZR+ pluggable modules and 2nm coherent DSPs. The new products include the COLORZ 1600 module, powered by the Electra 1.6T DSP, and the Libra 800G DSP. These solutions are designed to address the "scale-across" requirements of AI infrastructure, enabling high-bandwidth, secure connectivity between data centers spanning distances from 20km to 1,000km. This release is significant as it marks the transition to 2nm process technology for coherent signal processing, offering improved power efficiency and density for hyperscale cloud providers. By integrating MACsec security directly into the chips, Marvell addresses the growing demand for encrypted data transmission across distributed AI clusters. With the interconnect chipset market projected to reach $11.5 billion by 2030, these first-to-market advancements position Marvell to capture high-volume demand as AI workloads outgrow the capacity of single-site data centers.
