MediaTek projected to secure 15% share of the AI ASIC market

MediaTek management and analysts from Counterpoint Research expect the company to capture at least a 15% market share in the AI ASIC sector.

Context

MediaTek is positioned to capture at least a 15% share of the rapidly expanding AI ASIC market, according to recent projections from both company management and Counterpoint Research. This growth is primarily fueled by a strategic design win with Google for its seventh-generation Ironwood Tensor Processing Unit (TPU), which utilizes TSMC’s 3nm process. Beyond its Google collaboration, the company is leveraging its proprietary 224G SerDes technology and a co-design partnership with Nvidia for the DGX Spark project to diversify its footprint in the high-performance computing sector. The company expects its first major AI ASIC project to enter mass production in the third quarter of 2026, contributing an estimated $1 billion in revenue that year. Management anticipates this figure will scale to multiple billions by 2027 as the total addressable market for data center ASICs reaches $50 billion to $70 billion. This shift marks a significant transition for MediaTek, diversifying its revenue streams away from the smartphone market and toward the high-margin cloud infrastructure segment.
