Huawei is reportedly focusing on autonomous driving technology for cars, including those priced around 3 million yen, as a way to bolster its business following US sanctions on its smartphone division. This move indicates a concrete strategic pivot toward the automotive sector.

In a strategic move to diversify its business amidst U.S. sanctions impacting its smartphone division, Huawei is significantly expanding its autonomous driving technology into the mass market. The company aims to integrate its advanced systems, featuring a "Navigate-on-Autopilot (NOA)" capability, into vehicles priced around ¥3,000,000. This expansion is facilitated by cost-effective sensor and camera integration, making sophisticated autonomous features more accessible to a broader consumer base.
Huawei's Qiankun intelligent driving system has already achieved over 1 million installations across various car models, with lidar shipments also exceeding 1 million units. The system has accumulated an impressive 4 to 5 billion kilometers in assisted driving mileage. Looking ahead, Huawei plans to roll out its ADS 4 system in 2025, targeting highway L3 commercialization. The company's roadmap includes achieving large-scale L3 deployment by 2026 and initiating urban L4 pilot programs by 2027, with continuous enhancements delivered via OTA updates to partner vehicles.
