TSMC is reportedly planning its 2nm factory layout with a target production capacity of 80,000 wafers per month by the end of the year.

Context

TSMC is rapidly scaling its 2nm production footprint across Taiwan, targeting a monthly capacity of 80,000 wafers by the end of 2026. This expansion is primarily driven by new facilities at Fab 20 in Baoshan and Fab 22 in Kaohsiung, which utilize the advanced nanosheet (GAA) transistor architecture. The transition is progressing smoothly, with trial production yields reportedly exceeding 60%, providing a high-confidence roadmap for the industry's most sophisticated silicon node to date. The massive ramp-up is a strategic response to unprecedented demand for AI and high-performance computing. While Apple is set to consume a large share of initial capacity for its next-generation mobile processors, Nvidia has emerged as a major driver of demand for advanced AI accelerators. With 2nm wafers expected to command prices near $30,000, this capacity surge positions TSMC to significantly grow its top-line revenue and maintain its dominant lead in the high-end foundry market.
