Context

At the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference on March 4, 2026, Morgan Stanley analyst Erik Woodring lauded Dell Technologies for its dominant position in the artificial intelligence sector. During a discussion with Dell CFO David Kennedy, Woodring stated, "Again, I look across my coverage, nobody is doing what you're doing in terms of AI servers. So where does the secret sauce come from for you guys?" This praise follows Dell's record-breaking fiscal year 2026 results, where the company reported $113.5 billion in total revenue. The company’s momentum is driven by an unprecedented surge in infrastructure demand. Dell ended its most recent quarter with a record $43 billion AI backlog and shipped $9.5 billion in AI servers in Q4 alone. Its enterprise AI customer base has expanded rapidly, growing from 3,300 to over 4,000 in just 90 days. Management attributes this "secret sauce" to engineering excellence in power and cooling, and the recent launch of Project Lightning, which is moving into production to further scale AI deployment.
