Analyst Jeff Pu recently speculated that NVIDIA may integrate Co-Packaged Optics (CPO) into its VR300 series, potentially two years ahead of schedule. This rumor suggests a significant acceleration in NVIDIA's optical integration strategy, which could have substantial implications for the semiconductor and AI supply chain. NVIDIA has already announced CPO solutions for its scale-out switches, with InfiniBand CPO expected in 2H25 and Ethernet CPO in 2H26. The adoption of CPO is touted for its efficiency gains, including a claimed 70% power reduction, decreasing consumption from 30W for a pluggable transceiver to just 9W per 1.6T CPO port. Furthermore, CPO switches are reported to offer a 10x improvement in AI cluster resiliency and up to 5x better GPU utilization efficiency.
