BOE displays potentially selected for Samsung Galaxy S series supply chain

Reports indicate that Chinese display manufacturer BOE may provide display panels for Samsung's flagship Galaxy S series smartphones, marking a significant supply chain shift for the premium lineup.

Context

BOE Chairman Chen Yanshun met with Samsung Electronics executives Roh Tae-moon and Yong Seok-woo in mid-December 2025 to discuss expanding display panel supply for smartphones and TVs. This follows a November patent settlement that previously slashed BOE’s supply to Samsung from 10 million units to 1 million. Driven by the AI boom’s impact on component costs—with low-end manufacturing expenses jumping 20-30% in 2024—Samsung is diversifying its supply chain to protect margins ahead of a projected 6.9% rise in global smartphone prices next year. The deal offers a critical lifeline for BOE, which recently lost a 10-million-unit order for Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro due to quality issues. While BOE has proposed supplying 20 million TV LCD panels through 2028, it is aggressively pursuing high-end mobile OLED contracts to offset a 4-6% contraction in the Chinese TV market and secure global premium clients.
